Order and Chaos Within (Within Chaos and Order) - Bastiaan Arler for CoSTUME NATIONAL
“There are maps of all kinds, but when I try to navigate the complexities of the mind I often lose myself in this space where there are no maps. In an attempt to overcome this feeling of being lost I began to draw flowcharts, diagrams of cause and effect, which could show the range of constants and the intangible variables that define my existence. With ‘Order and Chaos Within (Within Chaos and Order)’ I wanted to give life to an existential and emotional map where people can feel immersed in the complexities of the human condition” - Bastiaan Arler
The immense installation, spanning over 420 square meters, extends along the walls of the Triennale to the foyer floor, where the CoSTUME NATIONAL FW2014-2015 fashion show will take place. The work consists of an existential and emotional flowchart - made entirely with tape and adehesive film - where dancer Maria Novella Della Martire interacts with the dynamics and dualities expressed in the installation, exploring the extensions of the human body. The public will be able to experience the sensation of being inside a map of the constants and limitations that characterize the human condition.
The artist is represented by Galleria NOPX in Torino and by HOC/ in Piacenza.
